The Cyprus Weekly was founded in September 1979 by a team of local journalists, and soon grew into the island's top-selling English-language publication, with a circulation exceeding 17,000, holding second place out of all Cyprus print media. It offers a variety of news and features, with an emphasis on political developments, human rights, the environment, tourism and finance, but also the arts, music, sports and a complete TV guide. It has the biggest classified ads section of any newspaper, dealing with personal matters, houses, cars , furniture for sale, apartments and holiday homes for rent, as well as numerous job opportunities. Its vacancies section is also the largest on the island. THE CYPRUS WEEKLY is an independent publication, without any political affiliation, but with strong views of its own, expressed in weekly editorials. It publishes a diverse collection of letters from local people and visitors alike, and offers its pages to opinion pieces by politicians and other key figures. The newspaper, which appears every Friday, is read by a cross-section of English-speaking people, mostly well-educated Cypriots , businessmen, diplomats and professionals. It is the best platform for advertisers targetting high-income groups.
